Jamaican FlagWhere did you both grow up?

Robert grew up in the garden parish of St. Ann, Jamaica and Jenieve in the city of Kingston, Jamaica.

When did you first start singing (playing, writing)?

Robert has been actively singing in quartets and choirs in his childhood church, Browns Town SDA, even as a young child.  He continued using his talent for God, winning several solo competitions as a young adult.

Jen, the daughter of a popular Jamaican recording artist, Toots Hibbert from Toots and the Maytals, began singing in elementary school, later singing back up vocals for her Dad with her sisters.

What gospel influences inspired you the most growing up and who inspires you now?

Growing up, Andre Crouch music was sung frequently at Jen's school assemblies.  Her dad, was always performing in concerts locally and touring internationally.  Music, even though it was not always gospel, played a major role in her life.  Robert's parent's home was filled with the melodies of Heritage Singers and Kings Heralds.  He delighted in the sounds of quartet harmony and knew someday he would also be a part of a popular male quartet.

Shirley Caesar, BeBe and CeCe Winans, Billy and Sarah Gaines and The Grace Thrillers of Jamaica continue to influence their music ministry.

What's the story behind the two of you being led to begin minister together?

Between 1987 and 1990, we both sang with Life Singers, a group based in Jamaica who toured internationally. As members of the group migrated to the USA, we became the only two artists residing in Jamaica.  God had a plan for us that we were not privy to.  A friend and member of Life Singers shared a few sound tracks with us, before she migrated.  Little did we know that the Lord in His Divine Inspiration had already designed the soundtrack to be duet music only.  Being obedient to the will of God, we began to minister as a duet with this music.

Over the years, our friends and listening audience overtly and subtlety, encouraged us to become a couple.  After knowing each other for six years and singing together as a duet for three years, we submitted to the will of God.  On July 18, 1993 we were wedded in holy matrimony.  It has been (14) fourteen wonderful and precious years growing in the Lord, ministering musically as a married couple and building our family.

What led you to decide and make your first recording?

As we traveled across the Island of Jamaica as singing evangelists, our listening audience was blessed and constantly demanded a recording of our music.  God poured out his blessing wherever we went.  In 1991, we prayerfully embarked on our first recording project "Robert and Jenieve Volume One, A Collection of Inspirational Music".  This was followed in quick succession by volumes two and three.   In 1998, we produced our first original CD, "Let Everbody Know", followed by "Even me" in 2000.  In 2003, we produced our signature CD, "Juice", "A collection of Caribbean Gospel Songs."

Raft in Jamaican LagoonHow do you balance family life with your career?

We are still trying!  It is a work in progress - we are still working out the formula!! Our primary responsibility is to our two boys, Joel and Reynaldo.  God is so faithful, he continues to bless us.  A few years ago as we ministered in Florida and London, we left our sons in the care of family members and friends.  Our tour lasted for four months.  Being away from the children for that extended period was difficult.  This summer 2007, we are touring the USA, with the boys, tutoring their class work as we go along. As we travel together as a family, even though it is difficult at times, we have peace of mind.

Do you get nervous before you minister?

At times there is some apprehension, sometimes related to the audience and choosing the right songs.  Jenieve is the designated speaker and powerfully ministers to the audience.  Robert is much more at ease with singing.  Periodically, Jen gets a little queasy in anticipation of the presentation.  Where ever we go, the Lord is leading us there, and we have a message to deliver.  Since we’ve delivered ourselves into the Lord’s care and He is keeping us, there is nothing to worry about.

What is a special text or portion of scripture that listeners can find in your music?

Our message invites the audience to love the Lord your God with all your heart.  Our desire is to bring comfort and encouragement to our audience.  Seek ye first the kingdom of God and all these thing will be added to you.  Matt 6:33.  Trust in the Lord with all thine heart and lean not to thine own understanding.  In all thy ways acknowledge Him and He will direct thy path. Prov. 3:5-6

What are some of your short and long term goals?

Producing our next CD is a short term goal.  We hope to continue working on this project as soon as we return home to Jamaica.  It's an expensive project, and we ask for your prayers.  As the Lord gives us breath, our long term goal is to go into the entire world and preach the gospel.  As we submit our lives to the will of God, we are determined to go where ever He leads us.

What are a couple of things that you're looking forward to doing when you get to Heaven?

Being able to worship God unceasingly!  Jen wants to see Enoch and talk to him about his walk with God.  Rob is anticipating the fellowship with the Angels and seeing friends who've been sleeping in the Lord.  Living eternally with Jesus in the City of Gold, with no more death, no more pain and absolutely no more worries. No problem Mon!
