Tell us a bit about Dynamic Praise and when the group was founded.

Oakwood CollegeIn the Fall Quarter of 1988, several talented freshmen organized a Freshman Choir at Cunningham Hall of Oakwood College. Among the organizers were Johnny Ramsey, Gerald Morgan, Brian Clifton, Michael Darville, Patrick and Paul Graham, Bobby Anderson, Robert Bell, and Owen Simons. Owen Simons was the first director. At the end of the school year, the freshman choir changed its name to "Rejoice". After much discussion, the name "Dynamic Praise" was decided upon during the fall of 1989. In the Spring Semester of 1996, Owen Simons handed the choir leadership over to Andrew Young, affectionately known as "Benji".

Over the years, where are some of the places that the choir has been able to travel to and minister?

The choir has traveled across the country and into the international waters. Dynamic Praise has shared the stage with such artist as Richard Smallwood, Kirk Franklin, Yolanda Adams, Donnie McClurkin, CeCe Winans, Dottie Peoples, Byron Cage, Lamar Campbell, and Kelly Price and many more.

Tell us about some of the former members that have gone on become artists and make their own recordings.

The choir has alumnus roster consisting of such artist as Take 6, Virtue, Sharon Riley, Sean Simmonds, Duawne Starling, Carmen Hope, Lee Cort, and Grandpa Cletus.

Dynamic Praise Album Cover - TestifyWhat is the title of your latest CD?

Testify is our latest project.

Do you have a favorite song that ministers to you?

God Restores is the most requested song from the choir. It really speaks to the heart and soul of our listeners. Everyone can relate to the message of the song, "He restores my mind, He restores my soul, with his healing hands I'm made whole, he makes my life complete my reunion is so sweet I'm a leaving testimony, God RESTORES".

I understand that Dynamic Praise has recently released a live DVD recording.  How would you describe the work that went into preparing for that concert and where can people learn more about the DVD?

We just released our live DVD recording back in April. The project was recorded in April 2007 at Madison Mission SDA Church. The house was packed, the scene was set, and the Holy Spirit showed up and showed out. We started preparing for the recording during the fall of 2006, learning the all new music for the project. Most of the songs were written by former choir members and the most of the songs were lead by current members. The project has something for everybody, from urban gospel to a traditional anthem. There is even a special feature section on the DVD for all DP fans. The project will be available soon on our record label website http://madisonavenuerecords.com. The CD can be purchased from http://cwww.cdbaby.com/cd/dynamicpraise.

Who are some of the people that help make Dynamic Praise successful?

There are so many people that have a big part in making the choir a success. Our assistant directors (Keith Terrill, Ian Calendar, and Bruce Bean) have been great in pushing the choir for excellence. The band (Andre Denham, Roberto Burton, Nikki Anderson, Nathan Anderson, Jonathan Tankard, Darrel Jackson, Tre Calhoun, and Kelvin Wooten) put in many practice hours to have a quality professional sound that keeps on getting better and better.  Our pastor (James Doggette) is the biggest supporter anyone could ask for. The record label (Madison Avenue Records) under the leadership of Kelvin Wooten has taken our project to another level of worship. Most important is the Lord who has led the choir through twenty years of up and downs, but most of all a closer relationship with Him.

What are some of the future goals of the group?

This upcoming Oakwood Alumni Weekend, Dynamic Praise will be celebrating our 20th anniversary with a big reunion concert. The stage will be filled with choir members from over the past 20 years. We are looking forward to concert and celebration. This will be a little taste of what it will be like in heaven.

When we all get to heaven, I'd imagine that there will be time for a Dynamic Praise alumni choir concert.  What do you think that will be like?

We get excited every time we think about what heaven is going to be like. We can't wait to hear the awesome sound when we get our heavenly voices and sing our praise to God. To all Dynamic Praise members, rehearsal will be at 5:00pm on the 2nd Friday by the Tree of Life.
