What have you been up to musically since our last interview?  CD Cover

I released a full length CD in March 2009 titled Words of Life.  The songs are drawn form the Word of God and combine various styles.

I'm also endeavoring to become a singing evangelist and I've been blessed to be afforded the opportunity to be the featured soloist at evangelistic crusades.  In addition, I have recently set up a nursing home ministry enabling me to sing and play for the elderly.

I understand that you're fluent in more than one language, how did your interest in other languages come about and how do you incorporate it into your music?

I have loved different languages ever since I was a child.  I went to a school where there were many different students from various backgrounds.  I loved it!  This is why I later went on to study language in high school, college, and now graduate school.  In my opinion, language is the key that opens the door to understanding different cultures and ideas.  I also think languages present the musical ear with even more appreciation for different styles.

What's an example of a scripture passage that inspired one of your songs from any of your albums?

When I was going through an uncertain time, the Lord reminded me that He is in control of the storms of my life.  He has the power to say “Peace, be still.”  The familiar passage in Mark 4:35-41 serves to remind me that God is in control and I must trust Him in faith to continually work out His will in my life.   Scripture songs to me are so very powerful.  The Lord has inspired me with many songs directly quoting scripture passages and on many occasions they have help me focus in the right direction.  I hope to share these songs with others so we all may be reminded that God’s word is powerful and “sharper than any two-edged sword.”  (Hebrews 4:12)

Jasmine BrannYour love for music began when you were young, what are some of your favorite musical memories?

My earliest musical memories include listening to my mom play the piano. When I was a child, I enjoyed listening to her familiar chord progressions because they had a soothing effect on me.  My mom also was my first voice teacher who taught me how to trust my ear with harmony.  She celebrated every musical accomplishment at recitals and choir solos.  Even today, my mom is still there to encourage and show her support any time I sing.

I’d have to say that the greatest musical lesson she taught me is to give back with the gift God has given me.  My mom is a very compassionate person and we would go the nursing home almost every Friday night to sing for the elderly.  Today, this spirit of ministry has stayed with me and I pray that my voice will be one of hope in all venues.

One Project One CauseTell us about One Project, One Cause

I am also in the process of setting up a new ministry called One Project, One Cause along with other musicians in the area.  This ministry will allow for musicians and singers from the area to come together and help support a charitable cause financially by using their musical abilities.

What are some of the challenges that you face in ministry?  What has God been teaching you about overcoming them?

I believe balance and complete surrender have been my greatest challenges.  Sometimes I think money or time management might be challenges, however, God will provide for all my needs as long as I seek Him first. (Matthew 6:33) In the past, I have allowed myself to become so busy that I neglected other more important things like family and personal quiet time with God.  In these moments, I have to remember that music is not my life and God is not praised if I am rendering Him worship half-heartedly.  He would still love me even if I didn’t sing. The Lord has often used the same songs He inspires me with to rebuke and instruct me in His righteousness.  I believe that challenges will continue to come and it gives me assurance to know that I don’t have to rely on my own strength.  (Zechariah 4:6)

What are some of the rewarding parts of being involved in this ministry?

I have felt extremely blessed to be used by God in the manner He is using me.  I feel very humbled when people speak to me after I sing and share with me how a song affected them.  Two occasions come to mind at this moment.  When I sang at a hospital in Argentina, a patient told me that I gave her a gift by singing for her and the other patients.  She was incredibly grateful for the inspiration and I will never forget our conversation. Earlier this year, another woman told me that my concert inspired her to grow in her relationship with Christ.  God be praised!

What's something that you're looking forward to when you get to Heaven?

I pray God will allow me to reunite again with husband, family and friends in Glory.  I look forward to singing with the angelic choirs and praising God eternally in heaven’s language--- LOVE!!
